The Bridge of the Americas is a group of international bridges which cross the Rio Grande (Río Bravo) connecting the United States-Mexico border cities of El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. The bridge is also known as "Puente Río Bravo", "Puente Internacional Córdova-Las Américas", "Cordova Bridge", "Puente Libre", "BOTA", and "Free Bridge".[1]
The Bridge of the Americas consists of two bridges that have two lanes each for commercial traffic and two bridges which have four lanes each for passenger vehicles and sidewalks for pedestrians. The bridges were constructed from 1996 to 1998. The American side of the bridge is owned and operated by the City of El Paso.[1] To date it is the only toll-free bridge connecting El Paso with Ciudad Juarez.
